Create Reports

Drilling-down & Rolling up
Drilling-down is the process of zooming in on data at lower level, thus seeing the members that make up the current value. Rolling-up is the inverse of drilling-down. Drilling-down and rolling-up is made simple within the DWE: when it is possible to drill-down a plus sign '+' will appear next to the item. By clicking this sign you will drill-down on the results. When a roll-up is possible, a minus ‘-‘ sign will appear next to the item. This is analogous to a folder tree in the windows explorer.
Slicing
Slicing data is the process of setting the context of the information you are viewing. E.g., you can view the sales per customer in the context of the year ‘2006’ for products ‘A’ and ‘B’. Setting the context is easy in DWE, just select the hierarchy for which you want to include in the current context a check the desired items.

Filter
You can filter your results to leave out or only include values that meet certain conditions. E.g., you can filter the results to only show the top or worst 10 customers for product ‘X’, or only show the products that generate profit instead of loss. Filtering can be achieved by simply clicking on the column header of the column on which you want to filter and defining the filter conditions.
Statistics
You can add extra rows and columns to the grid that contain statistical calculations based on the results. These statistical calculations include total, average, count, minimum, maximum, standard deviation and variance. There are also "smart" statistics that avoid counting duplicates.

Sort
You can sort your results by simply clicking the title of the column on which you want to sort. Just as you would expect.
Columns can be sorted with or without loosing the hierarchy. Sorting without the hierarchy means that all values in the column are sorted without looking at the hierarchy. All values in all columns have been sorted from small to large. Sorting with the hierarchy means that within a certain level all rows are sorted.
Calculated member
A calculated member is a dimension member whose value is calculated at run time using an expression that you specify. Many templates are available from which new calculations can be created, including common business calculations (totals, %difference, ratios, etc.), period comparisons (ytd cumulative, change from last year/period, change from last year period in %, etc.), distinct count with basket analysis and statistical calculations (averages, standard deviation, variation, maximum, etc.).

Visualize Data

Powerful Charts
DWE Charts are powerful. Full analytical functionality remains intact when operating in graphics mode. This means slicing, filtering, drilling down and all the rest, remains possible. Trendlines, color schemes and advanced control over the behavior and appearance of the charts is available at all times.
Exception Highlighting
You can use exception highlighting to focus attention on certain values. By applying exception highlighting rules you can quickly see which values qualify as being exceptional, such as the best performing stores or the worst performing products. You can create your own visual highlighting styles which you can apply in different exception definitions.

Cell Visualizations
Within a grid, it's possible to display extra results next to the already present measure value. These extra results can be contributions (in %) to the member parent or row/column total; it can also be the deviation from the average of the parents member. This relative performance value can also be visualized using data bars, performance icons or background colors within the cell.
Properties
Properties are the aspects of a specific member/level/hierarchy/etc. other than its name. You can specify attributes to be displayed next to the member name within the grid, or, you can display all properties within a separate window. For example, you can display the address and Zip code of your best customers next to their names in the grid and export the results to Excel to generate a mailing.

Mapping
Visualize geographic information on Google maps. Simply tell Data Warehouse Explorer which items you want to plot on a map and select what information is determines the size and the contents of the items on the map. Familiar Google map types are available (map, satellite, terrain) for optimal visualization.
Printing & Exporting
You can print or export the information you are viewing to a variety of targets, including HTML, Excel, Excel PivotTable, PDF, Web Archive, Rich Text, Text Image, and as an attachment in an email message. Before printing, you can optionally preview the output and add your own headers, footers and other output customizations.

Understand Data

Cube Dictionary
Cube diagrams provide you with a birds eye view of all elements of the cube you are currently working with. This not only includes all dimensions, hierarchies, levels, members and measures, but also includes the descriptions for those elements and general cube information (such as the last modification and processed date). The cube meta data can be viewed graphically or as a tree and can be searched and printed.
Drill Through
You can use the Drillthrough feature to view the relational source data that contributes to the value of a cell within the grid. This is useful in situations where you wish to have insight into the source records that accumulate to the cell value, for example, when verifying the correctness of a cell value.

Views
The DWE enables you to browse backwards and forwards through the analytical steps you perform. This way you can keep track of your actions and undo mistakes you make.
Actions
Actions are pre-defined operations, which can be defined on hierarchy members or specific result cells. Actions can be used, for example, to retrieve more information about a member or cell value via an external application or source, such as a web site or legacy application.

Multiple data sources
Within DWE you can work with multiple data sources in one report. Since there are no limitations on the number or location of data sources in your report, DWE offers you the possibility to create complete and complex monthly reports, containing all information items needed, including text and images. When using the DWE there is seldom a need to create custom reports using reporting tools anymore.
Query History
Once you’re really satisfied with an analysis you made, the DWE allows you to save this specific analysis view in your current report. No need anymore to save multiple reports based on the same Olap cube. Retrieving a view requires only one action: pick your saved selection!

Share Reports

DataWarehouse Explorer Portal
DataWarehouse Explorer Portal is a web application and can therefore be accessed using your browser of choice. After opening the site, you'll see a folder tree on the left side of the screen and a documents list on the right. This layout provides an efficient way for you to find and access your documents, just as you are used to when working with the Windows Explorer. is a web application and can therefore be accessed using your browser of choice. Viewing Reports
A report which has been created with DataWarehouse Explorer can be viewed in the DWE Portal/Sharepoint without requiring the DWE itself. Just navigate to the report of choice and double click it. The report will now be rendered in a new tab. You can open multiple documents and switch between them.

Exporting Reports
Exporting a report to various formats is an easy process, which takes just two steps. First open the report which you want to export in the integrated report viewer. Now click the icon of the format of choice. Currently the following exports formats are supported:PDF, HTML, Excel, Web Archive, Rich Text, Text and Image
Scheduler
DataWarehouse Explorer Portal provides a convenient way to deliver reports in various formats to your mailbox. Often, a user will want to run a set of reports each monday or on the first of the month. This will be handled automatically by the built in report scheduler. Reports can also be delivered on a network share or to an FTP-site.

Sharepoint
Integrates Data Warehouse Explorer Portal into your SharePoint implantation. Your users can access all DataWarehouse Explorer reports from the same place they go to carry out their day-to-day tasks and through the interface they are familiar with.
Mobile
Access view all reports and report views on the DWE Portal from any mobile device with internet access. The user interface has been designed to support viewing on smaller screens.
