Analysis Services

Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services, often simply referred to as Analysis Services, is a collection of Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) and Data Mining services supplied with Microsoft SQL Server. The OLAP models (called cubes) defined with Analysis Services contain data, data structures and calculations. OLAP cubes allow easy analysis of corporate information for decision making. Important aspect to this way of working is that all information that is centrally controlled for correctness and performance as opposed to working with many personal spreadsheet models. Even though Analysis Services is part of Microsoft SQL Server, data from many different data sources (e.g. Oracle, IBM DB2) can be loaded into the OLAP models.
